This may sound strange to many but its fact , yes so how many of us really show interest in football and that too indian football?. And the answer to it will be very few. Apart from some parts of our country (say bengal, goa,) very few people in other states are interested in this sports. Some do follow football but are very much excited to see the european leagues and are updated with each and every news of theres. They truelly might be knowing that Hull City a B-Legue team of EPL entered the league and created an upset and is now on the 3rd spot and is also a threat for every team. But very few might be knowing that Mumbai FC a debut team in i-League has done same thing by defeating likes of mohan Bagan, East Bengal and Md sporting and now are on 2nd position of the league.
So who is to be blamed for such indifference in publice attitude?. Ofcourse the sports ministry and the sports governing bodies are to be blamed.
Very few might be knowing that cricket and football came to india at the same time and football was also very keenly played by the indians but we couldn't cope up with the technological advancement in the game then, for that reason india returned from the 1956 world cup match where they were not allowed to play bare footed and that was it after that india never qualified for one. On the other hand after the world cup victory in 1983 in cricket, it became a religion for the people of india and football slowly slipped into darkness.
Now its high time to seriously think about the situation and try to sort out a solution for it. 10 years ago the nation league started which now became the i-League, so concentration must be focussed on it whole heartedly and ofcourse with some currency also so that the infrastructures, the grounds, the technicians etc can be improved. So the ministry of sports must start considering this issues and implement some for the enhancement of the game in india because the BCCI and the cricketers can themselves make money without anyones help through their broadcasting rights, advertisements, sponsorships etc. Its good news that one of our country's best player Sunil Chettri has got offers from Leads United ( a renowned club of England) and also from a Portugal club.
The most important in the factor of success of cricket is its connectivity. The local coaching centers are connected to the state and Ranji teams, which are very well connected to the national teams. So in football also the same strategies must be followed for its upliftment.
We really have talent but it should be groomed in a proper way so that our dreams of seeing India play in world cup may come true.
